A group of artists of the National Theater have sent a letter to Prime Minister Edi Rama and Minister of Culture Elva Margariti with the request for equalization of their salaries with those of TKOB artists, since the latter’s salary has been increased from 15 percent to 57 percent.
We were happy for our colleagues and at the same time we grieved immeasurably for ourselves. It is the first time in the history of this country that these two national institutions are treated differently, says their letter.
Actor Naun Shundi says: We feel unequaled in relation to the salary increase you made to the artists of TKOB. The majority of TK artists have helped the prime minister and the municipality in the demolition of the National Theatre. Can you tell us why our salary was not increased?
The letter states that; with all the difficulties that were created, since the “battle” for the Theater, the demolition of the old TK building, the transfer to ArTurbina and the pandemic, today we are managing again, thanks to an extraordinary work, to fill the hall to capacity of ArTurbina. This post-pandemic artistic season, we have participated and performed in very large and difficult productions, “Coriolanus”, “Edmond”, “Animal Farm”, “Birthday Anniversary”, etc.
The Prime Minister, despite the busy agenda, should give us an answer by the end of the month. If by the end of the month we do not receive an answer, we will be forced to take another step, says Shundi.
They express with confidence that soon, with the new state budget, they expect a salary increase for the National Theater as well. This letter was signed by 21 artists of the National Theatre.
