Various letters have been spotted on the side of Russian tanks since the start of the conflict as well as new symbols that have sparked other speculations on social networks.
A Ukrainian farmer is photographed pulling a Russian tank with his tractor, a few weeks after another man became famous on social media doing the same.
The location of the incident is not known, but a Ukrainian journalist posted the images on social networks yesterday, showing the powerful tractor pulling the half-destroyed tank along the road.
Symbols such as “Z” and “V” have been seen on Russian vehicles since the start of the war in Ukraine last month, with the former symbolizing specific Russian troops and the V symbol being held by Belarusian tanks, according to media reports.
The last captured tank has the symbol “O” on the side of the body, which some sources say identifies Belarusian military vehicles.
Simon Miles, a professor of Slavic studies at Duke University, told the Huffington Post: “It is even more important that these symbols are kept in rapid warfare battles so that people do not shoot at themselves.”
There are several theories about the meaning of the letters but none of them have been confirmed by the Russian leadership.
Some sources say that the letter V corresponds to the Russian Navy, while Z – which is written in two forms, symbolizes the Eastern and Southern military units.
The other two first letters in the tools are X and A.
For X, sofrep.com says it belongs to the forces of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, while A appears to be used by Russian special forces, so it is not often seen on the front.
