Two captured Russian soldiers have been found guilty in the second war crimes trial to be held in Ukraine.
Alexander Bobikin and Alexander Ivanov, are accused of violating the laws of war by bombing a city and prosecutors want to imprison them for 12 years. The shelling destroyed an educational institution in Derhaçi, prosecutors say.
“I am completely guilty of the crimes I have been charged with“, Bobik told the court in Kotelva, Poltava region, according to the Reuters news agency.
“I regret and ask for a reduction of the sentence,” said Ivanov.
A defense attorney sought damages reduction, saying the soldiers had followed orders.
The final decision is expected on May 31.
