NASA tracked down a part of the Russian Angara-A5 rocket, which was launched from the center of Plesetsk in northwestern Russia on December 27, but went out of control, says CNN.
Although large amounts of rocket debris burn after entering the Earth’s atmosphere and the risk to humans is small, when it comes to larger parts they can become hazardous if they end up in inhabited areas.
The episode caused considerable concern, and the US space command was able to track down the Angara A5. It entered the Earth’s atmosphere somewhere above the South Pacific, but according to CNN, it may be impossible to determine exactly where it fell.
Earlier, the head of the European Space Agency, Holger Krag, said that the Russian rocket was traveling at a speed of 7.5 kilometers per second. According to him, the danger that arose from it was real and should not be ignored.
