Russia has threatened the West that any military shipment to Ukraine would be seen as a ‘legitimate target’, fueling fears that there could be an escalation of the conflict that could draw other countries, according to the Daily Mail.
Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned the United States “that pumping weapons from a number of countries it leads is not just a dangerous move, it is a move that makes those columns legitimate targets.”
The warnings came after Joe Biden intervened to stop a shipment of Polish MiG fighter jets to Kiev, fearing the move could lead to “World War III”.
But Volodymyr Zelensky has criticized the West for its inaction, saying today he ‘does not see any courage from NATO’ as he called for more Allied involvement in peace negotiations and offered to pay for more anti-missile systems. In response, the US made lukewarm promises to take ‘diplomatic steps’ to help the Ukrainian government.
Ukraine has repeatedly complained that Russian forces do not always respect ceasefires so that civilians can leave through the evacuation corridors.
Moscow troops continue to use shelling to surround major Ukrainian cities, increasing the number of casualties.
