The United States will gather today representatives of more than 40 countries to discuss the war in Ukraine.
Their meeting is expected to focus on arming Kiev in a bid to defend itself against a decisive Russian attack in eastern Ukraine, US officials said.
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin will chair the meeting at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, following a trip to Kiev, where he promised to increase US support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s efforts to fight in his country.
U.S. Army Chief of Staff General Mark Milley said the main purpose of the talks was to synchronize and coordinate increased security assistance to Kiev that includes heavy weapons, as well as combat drones and ammunition.
“The coming weeks will be very critical. They need constant support in order to be successful on the battlefield. “And that is really the purpose of this conference.” said Milley.
No further than yesterday, a Russian official warned that supplying Ukraine with weapons would be unacceptable to Russia.
