On the 93rd day of the war Russian troops made further advances in the eastern Donetsk region, encircling Sievierodonetsk and Lyschansk and capturing an area in the important city of Bakhmut.
Ukrainian officials say in recent days, the Russians have combined short-range ballistic missiles, missile systems, heavy artillery and tanks in a relentless bombing of cities in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions still under Ukrainian control.
Some officials describe the situation as “very difficult” and acknowledge that Ukrainian units may have to withdraw to some countries.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Moscow of committing a “genocide” in the eastern Donbas region.
“They want to turn our cities to ashes as they did with Mariupol. In Donetsk and Luhansk, they are gathering as many people as they can to fill the place of the killed and wounded in the invading contingent. All this, including the expulsion of our people and the mass murder of civilians, is an obvious policy the genocide perpetrated by Russia ”.
On the other hand, the West and the US have responded to Ukraine’s constant calls for more weapons. They have provided Ukraine with long-range weapons, including the M777 missile from Washington and the Harpoon anti-ship missile from Denmark.
Washington is even considering providing Kiev with a missile system that could have a range of hundreds of kilometers.
