Russia announced it would allow the opening of a humanitarian corridor for the evacuation of civilians who want to leave the besieged Azovstal steel plant in the city of Mariupol.
The Russian side said that the ceasefire has entered into force and in this way, many civilians will have, according to her, the opportunity to leave the complex. About 1,000 civilians are reportedly trapped in the plant, along with recent Ukrainian fighters defending the city. Vladimir Putin had earlier ordered his troops to blockade the compound so that “not a single fly” could leave without their approval.
Meanwhile, the flames rose to the skies in the early hours of today after attacks by Ukrainian raiders blew up two oil depots used to supply Russian troops engaged in the battle for control of Donbas.
The Transneft-Druzhba depot, located in the town of Bryansk about 100 km from the Ukrainian border, was engulfed in flames at 2 a.m. local time and 15 minutes later, a second fire broke out at a nearby military facility about 15 p.m. minutes later. The video of the moment of the attack also included the sound of a rocket hitting the object turning it into a ball of fire.
Bryansk is a key logistics hub for Russian forces fighting Ukraine in the Donbas, while the Druzhba pipeline is one of the main routes for Russian oil to reach Europe. The blasts came after British intelligence announced that Russia had ‘still much to do to make significant progress’ against the Donbas defense lines, as Ukraine imposed a ‘significant cost’ on Putin’s forces.
The British Ministry of Defense said that weak logistical and combat support is hindering the advance of the Moscow army, as it happened with the failed attempt to take Kiev.
