The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has suspended the role of honor bestowed on the longest-serving member of the lending body, as he is Russian.
Alexei Mozhin, executive director for Russia at the global lending body, has held the honorary role of dean since 2015.
An IMF spokesman said he had temporarily suspended Mozhin “given Russia’s role in the war in Ukraine” and its influence.
It comes after pressure from other joint stock countries, including the US, UK and Canada, the Financial Times reported.
The role includes filling the managing director who chairs the IMF executive board.
