Russia’s new nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missile, the Sarmat, will become part of its military arsenal in the autumn, a senior Russian official told state media.
This comment comes a few days after testing this rocket. The Sarmat rocket will continue to be tested until it is handed over to the army, said Dmitry Rogozin, head of the Russian Space Agency.
“We plan to do this by the autumn,” he said in a television interview.
The missile was tested on Wednesday in northern Russia. According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the new missile could surpass all defense systems and force those who “threaten our state to think twice.”
Sarmat can travel 18,000 kilometers and can carry nuclear warheads. According to Russia, this weapon enables all targets in the world to be attacked. The first such missiles are expected to be stationed in the Siberian region./ rel
