Ronaldo “Phenomenon” returns to the club that catapulted him to big football. Understood not as a footballer, but as a new shareholder. The 45-year-old already owns a majority stake in Cruizero’s club, which plays in the Brazilian Serie B.
This is the second club where “Phenomenon” has shares, as in Spain it owns 51% of Valladolid shares. Last week, Cruizero was transformed into a Joint Stock Football Company, enabling investors to get closer, as is the case in Europe.
Ronaldo and the company Tara Sports are learned to have bought 90% of Cruzeiro’s shares for 62 million euros. Initially, Ronaldo has to think about repaying the debts accumulated over the years by this club.
“I am happy to have completed this operation,” were Ronaldo’s first words. “I want to take Cruzeiro back to where he deserves to be. “We have a lot of work ahead of us to get the club back on top.”
“We are the club that revealed Ronaldo to the world, now it is Ronaldo who is opening the doors of the world to us,” said current president Sergio Santos Rodrigues. “We have worked for a long time to reach this agreement.”
Cruzeiro is playing his third season in a row in Brazil’s Serie B, after the sudden drop from the elite in 2019.
