Citizens today woke up with oil prices of 230 lek / liter, which is a record in the history of the country.
The price of oil increased by 40 lek from yesterday midnight. The main impact on this price has been created by the price in international stock exchanges.
The main factor is the war in Ukraine and sanctions against Moscow. The current price on the stock exchange has gone to 120 dollars per barrel, and the reason is that Russia, the second largest producer of oil in the world, is no longer allowed to export it, because ships are prevented from moving. And there are at least 10 million barrels of oil a day leaving the market due to the blockade.
But there is another internal factor. Internal taxes, from turnover, excise and concessionaire taxes, add the final price to gas stations.
Large suppliers, however, assure that this is a temporary situation, which is expected to be rectified soon. According to them, Albania is not endangered by the situation like the one in Serbia, where the limit of the amount of liters for each car has been set, as the supply of fuel in the country is guaranteed.
The hydrocarbon sector is currently also under the control of the competition authority for abusive pricing in a controlled manner. The Government of Kosovo a few days ago decided to freeze the profit rate for rising prices, as a result of the conflict in Ukraine.
