Prime Minister Albin Kurti in the joint conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has announced that at the end of this year he will apply for the status of EU candidate country.
“We are at a crucial moment for the region. The world after February 24 has changed. In these times the chancellor has shown vision in defending common values. We are united with Germany by our people as well.
We are grateful for your support and solidarity. We all remember the images of NATO soldiers entering Kosovo. We also remember the images of Kosovo, everything was burned and destroyed.
Germany has played an extraordinary role in the reconstruction of Kosovo. Our government is continuing with general reforms. We are working to meet EU integration reforms.
We will continue with our aspiration for candidate status when we claim to apply at the end of this year. Kosovo’s membership in NATO is urgently needed. We have increased the defense budget by 52%. Kosovo will remain a reliable partner of Germany. Serbia continues to block agreements within the Berlin Process.
We urge every country in the Balkans to commit to the common regional market. Kosovo calls on countries to sign an agreement on free movement with ID cards, diplomas, etc. We will all benefit by removing barriers to trade. We look forward to the revitalization of the Berlin process to bring the Western Balkans closer to the EU. German support would help us for investors. I expressed concern about energy security. ” said Kurti
