Residents in China ‘starving to death’ from Covid brutal isolation barring them from leaving home (photos)

Authorities in Xian City announced yesterday that 13 million people could leave their homes only when called for mass Covid tests or medical emergencies, the British daily adds.

Prior to the recent tightening of measures, only one family member was allowed to go out once every two days to buy food, according to the aforementioned media.

The absurd development comes though many studies report that the new Omicron variant is a fairly mild form of the disease, some even say it could act as a natural vaccine that could bring an end to the pandemic.

Xian residents are reportedly using social media to seek help, saying they are “starving” and seeking help from their neighbors.

“I am starving to death,” one person wrote on the Chinese social network Weibo.

“There is no food and they do not allow me to leave the building. “My cans are running out … help me.”

Serious measures began in Xian last Thursday when authorities said investigations had shown that “a person had come out of quarantine and spread the virus.”

Critics say some governments are using pandemic restrictions to normalize repression and total control over citizens.

Xian reported this month a figure of 810 Covid cases, which is the largest spread in China after the first wave of the pandemic, writes TheSun.

Yesterday, vehicles were not allowed to travel in the city, except those who “work to control the virus.”

Those caught in violation of the rules face 10 days in jail and a fine of 500 yuan ($ 70).

University of Hong Kong virologist Dongyan Jin said the campaign of mass disinfection of public surfaces is unnecessary as there is no risk of infection with Covid-19 from surfaces or from the air when all people are closed.
