US diplomat Christopher Hill, appointed new US ambassador to Belgrade, today called on Serbia to normalize relations with Kosovo.
He stressed that the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, which takes place under the auspices of the EU, is the best way to resolve disputes on both sides.
“Mutual acquaintance is the best way forward,” Hill said during a hearing before the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Hill said his priority would be to conduct a full investigation into the Bytyci brothers’ murder. Christopher Hill was appointed in October this year as the new US Ambassador to Serbia. Hill, whose appointment must be confirmed by the US Senate, has previously served as ambassador to Albania, northern Macedonia, Poland, South Korea and Iraq.
He is well versed in regional issues. He was a member of the US negotiating team during the Dayton Peace Talks to end the Bosnian war in 1995. In 1998 and 1999, Hill was also the US Special Envoy for Kosovo. Hill will replace Anthony Godfrey, who has served as ambassador to Serbia for two years.
