The implementation of the major project for the complete rehabilitation and expansion of the capacities of the Infectious Diseases Hospital at QSUT has started today. The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Ogerta Manastirliu, closely inspected the beginning of the works, where he informed that the reconstruction of the Infectious Diseases Hospital will organize and modernize the service, according to the best standards for the treatment of patients, turning this hospital into a reference center for the treatment of infectious diseases.
“The investment in the Infectious Diseases Hospital is an investment which is planned in the framework of our plan to respond to the Covid19 pandemic and its impact, but also to respond to other emergencies, to make the Infectious Diseases Hospital a real reference center. for infectious diseases. There are 5.6 million euros that are made available to this investment by the Albanian government, with all the necessary equipment and systems that a modern hospital should have “, said Manastirliu.
Appreciating the role of doctors in the pandemic period, the Minister of Health announced the government’s objective of strengthening hospital capacity in response to health crises.
“You have faced a voluminous job in these two years. Thanks to you, thanks to the timely preparations, thanks to the investments that have been made, we have managed to get every citizen to receive service on time and not to lack health care. We have the full will to invest for today and to respond to any situation that may arise tomorrow or in the coming years, strengthening our health capacity“, Said Manastirliu.
The Minister of Health said that all measures have been taken to provide service to patients with Covid-19.
“Regarding the response plan in terms of all hospital services, now all patients who are being treated, have been transferred to Covid 3 hospital. A reorganization has been done with the directorate of QSUT to have all the necessary materials, tools, in so that we do not have any problems to do all that treatment that was happening in the Infectious Diseases Hospital. In terms of the number of beds in the Covid3 hospital it is currently ample for the cases we currently have. But if we have or will have an increase in the number of cases that require hospital treatment, obviously our response plan scenarios for this period are ready, either in terms of hospital structures in regional hospitals, or in terms of the hospital structure of the hospital “Shefqet Ndroqi”, even in terms of structure Covid 4“, Said Manastirliu.
The investment worth 5.6 million euros consists of the reconstruction and expansion of the capacity of the Infectious Diseases Hospital. This investment comes in the framework of capacity building in the hospital system and especially in response to capacity building for hospital services for infectious diseases and the Action Plan 2021-2022 for responding to the Covid-19 pandemic. The full capacity of this hospital will be 118 beds. The design of patient rooms is with negative air pressure to prevent the circulation of infectious diseases from the room to common areas.
The project envisages doubling of resuscitation capacities and there will be an increase in capacities in the emergency department. The hospital will have all the necessary equipment of the latest technology and will be invested for the entire monitoring network of all hospital activity, in building the data network, for monitoring patients in real time. The new hospital will also be equipped with an auditorium and lecture hall for medical students.
