The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development held its annual summit in London, where new opportunities for regional cooperation and development were discussed. Prime Minister Edi Rama answered the question why foreign investors should invest their money in Albania.
Edi Rama: Investing in Albania or in other countries present here is more than investing in one country. It’s investing in a region with incredible potential yet untapped. As for Albania individually, I believe that we are already in a new phase and it is very clear to people visiting Albania that Albania is a paradise for tourism and for investing in tourism. On the other hand, we are seeing more and more things happening in the energy sector that is strategic, not only for us, but also for the times in which we live.
Prime Minister Edi Rama gave this explanation for the advantages of investments.
Rama: Energy, of course, has become a focal point for all of us. We are now moving towards achieving the goal of having an independent country, from an energy point of view, by fulfilling investments, which are already in process. We have the problem of being completely dependent on hydropower, which makes us a country with 100% renewable energy, but at the same time, this is accompanied by the weakness of dependence on just one source. What we are doing now is diversifying. The second is tourism, but of course strongly related to infrastructure and here I am talking about the Blue Corridor, part of the European network, part of the Berlin Process.
During his stay in London, Prime Minister Edi Rama also met with EU Enlargement Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi.
