As opposition to the war in Ukraine grows in Russia, Kremlin chiefs appear to have launched a wide-ranging propaganda campaign to increase support for the war.
Although the network Instagram has been officially banned in Russia, a group of local young women have started to become active on the platform by posting curated photos and videos, often in nursing suits of the era.
Video of the propaganda circulating on Russian social networks shows the decorated girls handing out small Easter cakes to a group of soldiers.
On their uniforms are distinguishable the Z symbols of the Russian army, which are often seen on tanks and armor in Ukraine.
The girls are described there as “women and girlfriends of the military taking part in the special operation for the denationalization and demilitarization of Ukraine.”
The campaign seems to be in response to cases where young Russians educated in Western countries have appeared on social networks with messages against the war “No To War”.
The propaganda material appears to be aimed at raising the low morale of Russian military forces and fighters from the separatist republic of Luhansk.
One of the protagonists, Alyona Boyko, has more than 30,000 followers on the TikTok network and Instagram, but both of these have been banned in Russia by the authorities and can only be opened using VPNs.
She says: “It is very important not to give up, to be strong because difficult times will pass sooner or later and everything will be fine.”
Violetta Moskalenko, 19, with 3,000 followers on Instagram, is a model who took part in Luhansk Fashion Week.
Other participants include Maria Okorokova, winner of the second prize at Miss Luhansk 2020, as well as Anastasia Chepurova who is an actress.
