The Kremlin adviser is urging the United States to return to Alaska and pay reparations following sanctions imposed by Vladimir Putin on the war in Ukraine.
Russian MP Oleg Matveicev, who often speaks on behalf of senior Russian officials, made the exaggerated demands appear on a Russian state television program, writes the British Daily Mail.
“We have to ask for compensation for the damage caused by the war and the sanctions themselves, because these cost money and we have to get them,” said Matveicev, even though it was Russia that started the war.
Matveicev added that he demanded the return of “all Russian and Russian property seized in the United States.”
According to him, this includes the territory of Alaska and Fort Ross in California, the latter a small area that was once the southernmost point of the Russian Empire in North America, which was sold in 1841.

The development comes as Russian and Ukrainian officials were in another round of peace talks in Belarus today.
