The Minister of Defense, Niko Peleshi reacted through a post this evening, after the news that Russia has recognized the independence of the eastern regions of Ukraine.
Peleshi says Putin’s recognition of Ukraine’s eastern regions is an ominous move that will bring uncertainty to peace, security and stability on the European continent.
“Putin’s recognition of the eastern regions of Ukraine, Donetsk and Luhansk, once again clearly confirmed the Russian scenario of violating international law and violating Ukrainian sovereignty. This ominous move will bring more uncertainty to peace, security and stability not only in Ukraine but on the entire European continent. “We will remain steadfast in our support for our Ukrainian partners, while the NATO Alliance is more united than ever.” wrote Peleshi.
According to some media, Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to recognize the independence of the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Luhansk. The Kremlin leader made the announcement to his security council on Monday. Putin said Monday that Russia was considering recognizing the independence of Ukraine’s two regions, but not by annexing them and formally adding them to the territory.
In the Minsk Agreements, negotiated by Germany and France in 2014 and 2015 and jointly agreed with Ukraine and Russia, the parties to the conflict in eastern Ukraine pledged to take several steps to reach a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
