Ukrainian forces are continuing their resistance in Severodonjeck, despite Russia having more troops and weapons in the eastern region.
“They are more in number, they are stronger, but we have the opportunity to fight.” Zelensky said, adding that fierce house-to-house fighting and indiscriminate bombing by the Russian military had turned Severodonjecki and Lisichansk into “dead cities”.
According to the Ukrainian head of state, what Moscow is aiming to acquire is Zaporizhia, one of the largest industrial areas in Ukraine and home to the largest nuclear power plant in Europe.
The conquest of these strategic targets means that Russian forces will have control of the entire Luhansk region in the east. But Zelensky insists they will not surrender.
“Our heroes are holding their ground in Severodonjeck. Street fighting continues fierce. “The Russian army is trying to use additional forces in the Donbas region, but we are resisting.” said Zelensky.
The British Ministry of Defense, confirmed in its latest update that the Russian progress last month around Severodonjeck, has now remained in place.
According to her, Moscow should make a turning point in the areas of Popasna, Severodonjeck and Izjum, if it wants to mark “success and progress towards political objectives to control Donetsk.”
