President Vladimir Putin on Thursday signed a decree to recruit 134,500 young men into the military, while the defense ministry said the call had nothing to do with the war in Ukraine.
The spring military draft, which runs from April 1st to July 15th, will recruit men between the ages of 18 and 27, the statement said.
Despite the promise that they will not be sent to war, the young men do not want to become part of the army in this period. For the network the AFP agency, they say that if they had a choice, they would not accept.
““I will avoid the army at all costs, I am against this urgent draft”, says a citizen.
““The forced draft is not what I expected in this, but I think that if the government has taken such a measure, there must be significant reasons.” expresses another.
“I do not think that the army is mandatory in our country today, nor is there a need for such a thing. “Who will serve, to serve with a contract and money, as it should be”.
The order comes five weeks after the entry of Russian troops into Ukraine, which has encountered fierce Ukrainian resistance.
Putin has been repeatedly accused of sending recruits to the war. He stated that there are only professional soldiers and officers, but on March 9 the Ministry of Defense admitted that among the troops in Ukraine there are also recruits.
“The men to be called will be sent to the military base in May, where they will undergo vocational training for three to five months and will not be sent to hotspots.adds the Russian Minister of Defense.
