Russian President Vladimir Putin today promised financial assistance to Russian citizens and the country’s businesses, calling for unity in overcoming sanctions.
Speaking at a government meeting in the Kremlin, he called on Russians to “mobilize” to face the difficulties caused by sanctions.
“This is difficult for us, but the massive wave of sanctions against Russia has failed,” Putin said, pledging to help the people.
He strongly defended military action in Ukraine, saying the tactics were “completely justified”, adding that there was no choice but to send troops.
Putin announced an increase in all social payments in the near future and added that the Russian economy has the resources needed to meet long-term goals.
“The current situation is a test, but I am sure it will pass with work and dignity,” Putin said.
As one of the aspects of the crisis, he demanded that private companies have full freedom of action even in areas of the economy dominated by the state.
