Protesters against mandatory coronavirus vaccination for truck drivers crossing the border between the United States and Canada have blocked the Canadian capital for the second day in a row.
Thousands of protesters have joined the Freedom Convoy in Ottawa.
Police have launched investigations after reporting several incidents, including the display of swastika flags and images of a woman dancing over the grave of an unknown soldier.
Defense Minister Anita Anand said the incidents were “beyond what is punishable”.
Ottawa police have said in a Twitter post that investigations are under way into the “desecration” of a number of monuments in the capital as well as threatening behavior towards police and city employees.
Truck drivers have blocked the roads leading to the Canadian Parliament building.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his family left Ottawa over the weekend due to security concerns.
About 90 percent of Canada’s 120,000 truck drivers are vaccinated against coronavirus.
In addition to calling for the cancellation of the requirement for compulsory vaccination of drivers crossing the border, the protest has called for an end to all measures related to compulsory vaccination.
The liberal government of Trudea on January 15 approved the decision requiring unvaccinated truck drivers to undergo quarantine once they enter Canada.
The United States has also said that foreign truck drivers must show proof of vaccination when entering US territory.
