Zv. the director of DVP Tirana, Luigj Vathi in a statement to the media said that the police only cleared the way for the passage of citizens and did not disperse the protesters.
He said that they continue to protest on the sidewalk in front of the Prime Minister.
“Based on the notification, the directorate has taken all measures until 19:00, for the second request we have sent a letter to clear the road. The police did not distribute the protesters, but it only made the release of the road, but they continue to protest on the sidewalk in front of the Prime Minister. We have cleared the way for all the citizens of Tirana to prosper. The protest continues and we have just cleared the road“, He said.
In small numbers they continue to stand in front of the Prime Minister, in the protest of eight citizens against the price increase.
In addition to the banners, some citizens were seen with the Ukrainian flag in hand. According to them, this was a response to the “arrogance of the prime minister.” They said that awareness of the war that is taking place there, does not mean that they do not stand up for their rights.
The protest started from “Skënderbej” square where the citizens gathered to then march towards the Prime Minister’s Office and to make all their calls there.
The revolt of the citizens came after the morning of March 7, when the prices of various products, in supermarkets, or other services, such as road transport, experienced a drastic increase.
The price of oil, within 24 hours, cost them 30-35 lek more than the day before.
Thus, Wednesday afternoon found the citizens under the door of the “head of government”, as if to demand “accountability” for every penny spent more.
For several days the manifestations were spread in the main axes of Tirana and in some cities of Albania.
On the other hand, the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama has considered them as “The most shameful protests that Albania has neither had nor will ever have.”
He added that even the supportive reaction to them is shameful.
