Pegatron has become the latest technology company to halt operations to build Apple’s iPhone, due to isolation measures in Shanghai.
The company has said it has temporarily suspended production at its two factories in China. The announcement comes after authorities eased some of the restrictions on coronavirus in Shanghai on April 12.
This has meant that some of the city’s 25 million residents could leave their homes after a few weeks. The city was isolated in late March as the number of infections increased in China’s financial capital.
Pegatron said it had stopped work at factories in Shanghai and Kunshan “in response to COVID-19 prevention measures”.
The company has said it will work with authorities “to get back to work as soon as possible”. Two other companies, Quanta and Compas Electronics, which make Apple’s MacBook and iPad devices, have also suspended work, Japanese media reported, Nikkei.
