Pro-Russian separatist forces in the Donetsk region have denied using chemical weapons in the southern port city of Mariupol, according to the Interfax news agency.
Eduard Basurin, a separatist commander, told the news agency that the chemical weapons had not been used despite Ukraine’s claims to the contrary.
Ukraine’s Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar said earlier that Kiev was checking unverified information that Russia may have used chemical weapons during the siege of Ukraine’s southern port city.
“There is a theory that these could be phosphorus ammunition.”Ms. Malyar said in a television interview.
