A group of neo-Nazis fighting in martial arts and other violent techniques has been discovered at a sports center near the German capital Berlin.
The far-right fighting group was found to be holding duel sessions at the Rennbahn sports center in the Weissensee area, without the knowledge or permission of local authorities.
Martial arts sessions were conducted in a plant area and included various postures and fighting techniques.
The group’s T-shirts bore the inscription ‘Kampf der Nibelungen’, a well-known far-right fighting group in Europe.
On its website, Kampf der Nibelungen writes: “It has always been the warriors who have defended their tribes, clans and their homeland.”
Although local officials said they were unaware of the ongoing exercises, the Berlin Senate said they were aware that “right-wing extremists were training sporadically at the Rennbahn Center,” according to MPs Niklas Schrader and Ferat Kocak.
From the strict privacy laws in Germany, the authorities did not disclose the identities of the participants, but Kocak said more needs to be done to understand the extent of the problem.
Investigations are ongoing.
