Only the intervention of the police managed to escalate the violence and calm down the situation created this Saturday by the protest called by Sali Berisha.
Supporters of former Prime Minister Berisha have tried to enter from different directions. An attempt by several people to climb the stairs to the second floor, on a balcony on the left side, was repulsed by several people from inside the building.
One of the protesters was wounded in the head. Other efforts have also been thwarted, with tear gas being used from inside the headquarters.
Using the stairs, Mr. Berisha’s supporters tried to enter the upper floors, using solid objects and stones that broke the windows. An armored door on the right side of the building was managed to open.
Police intervened briefly using tear gas. Supporters of former Prime Minister Berisha dispersed. Police units managed to take control of the PD building, deploying a large number of troops at its main entrance.
There were numerous reactions from the representatives of the international community to the situation. They unanimously condemned the acts of violence, calling on the protest organizers to reject the violence and act calmly.
Police, after calming down the situation, announced that they have declared a “crime scene” the PD building, placing yellow stripes on its premises.
