Poland has said it has built a 5-meter-high border wall covering 135 of the 180 kilometers it shares with it to stem the flow of migrants coming from Belarus to the EU.
The already completed wall is equipped with cameras and electronic sensors.
Polish border guards say crossing attempts have dropped significantly after construction, although they add that no barrier is impassable.
Polish border guard spokeswoman Katarina Zdanovic said there had been only 145 crossing attempts since the beginning of June.
“However, any wall can be crossed if you have the right tools, but we remain vigilant and constantly inspect,” she added.
Another border guard official said tunnels dug by migrants had been discovered, the entrances of which were covered with vegetation.
“We found tunnels two or three meters wide, about half a meter deep. “There is always the possibility of crossing a wall and a determined person tries in every way.”
“But at the moment they look effective and with the completion of the installations it will be even more difficult,” said the official.
