The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Frida Krifca, met with wheat farmers in Katundin e Ri, Durrës, who talked about production and sales expectations.
The Minister stated that agriculture is facing major challenges due to rising costs.
The meeting was held on a farm of an agricultural union company that produces wheat on more than 90 hectares, where 15 farmers each produce on their own land and sell the product together. This model is oriented for implementation by the Ministry of Agriculture in the National Scheme for other farmers, to empower them.
“We are in the period of applications of the National Scheme. You benefited from the oil scheme last year, I wish you had applied again and orientated other farmers to do the same. I’m very happy to be able to help at least a little bit by reducing the production costs of a crop that is already more important than ever. We are importers for part of our grain needs. Currently we can no longer import from Russia. I have met wheat processors in the country to find out if we will have problems and they have assured me that in case of problems they have every opportunity to orient themselves in new markets. “This is certainly an opportunity for local producers to focus on wheat, so that processors can get locally produced wheat, barley and corn, which already comes with an ever better quality,” said Krifca.
Minister Krifca said that she will draft support policies for farmers so that agricultural products in Albania compete with those in the region in quality and price.
