Former soldier Bajram Begaj took office this Sunday as the new head of state in the Republic of Albania, becoming the country’s 8th president.
At 18:20, Bajram Begaj arrived at the hall of plenary sessions of the Assembly, accompanied by his wife and children, where he was received at the entrance of the building by Speaker Lindita Nikolla. Before the legislators, Bajram Begaj took the oath as President of the Republic, while diplomatic representatives were also present in the Assembly hall.
About an hour later, Begaj arrived at the premises of the Presidency, where the President, Ilir Meta, handed over his duties to the new President Begaj. Symbolically, the president of the Constitutional Court, Vitore Tushaj, handed over the country’s constitution to President Begaj, and the ceremony was accompanied by 21 cannon shots.
At the ceremony were prominent figures of Albanian politics, diplomats, counterparts, politicians of the majority and the opposition, media people, academics and representatives of religious communities, etc., which you can see in the photo-gallery below.
