Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was greeted with a diplomatic boycott at the United Nations in Geneva.
Lavrov, who was addressing the UN human rights council and the UN disarmament conference, was greeted with a simultaneous departure from Western ambassadors when he began speaking.
He was apparently looking forward to reappearing on the diplomatic scene in Geneva.
When his speech via video link started playing, the Western ambassadors left – while Lavrov was speaking, they were fleeing.
Russia’s foreign minister then went virtually to the UN human rights council. Even there the room was emptied.
The irony: most of Lavrov’s speech was actually about security – or rather Russia’s concept of it.
Amid baseless claims that Ukraine could try to acquire nuclear weapons, he said it was time for US missiles in Europe to return home.
