The Head of the Office for Kosovo of the Government of Serbia, Petar Petkovi., Through a press release issued by this office, reacted to the statements of the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, who blamed Serbia for the failure to reach an agreement on license plates.
On April 21, in Brussels, the chief negotiators in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Besnik Bislimi and Petar Petkovic, failed to reach a permanent agreement on license plates, as the interim agreement reached on September 30 last year had a deadline until on April 21st.
Under the interim agreement, vehicles from both countries, while circulating in the respective territories, affixed white stickers on state symbols on license plates.
Through the communiqué of the Office for Kosovo in the Government of Serbia, Petkovi ka stressed that Belgrade has shown “high flexibility in seeking a solution for license plates, which would be applicable in real life and not in the minds of Albanian politicians.”
But, according to him, “Pristina has tried to change and condition the current license plate agreement, without offering any constructive solution.”
“Therefore, Vjosa Osmani, despite her constant desire to be part of the dialogue, should initially be informed in detail about its course, because the only thing that is blocking Belgrade are Pristina’s lies, not dialogue and conversation.” said Petkovi..
He accused the Kosovo authorities of not implementing a series of agreements reached in the dialogue process in Brussels, including the formation of the Association of Serb-majority municipalities.
The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, on April 22, said that in the coming days there will be efforts to reach a permanent solution for vehicle license plates and assured that the Kosovo side will be constructive and that “Kosovo will continue to be a party that respects the highest European principles and standards ”.
President Osmani blamed Serbia for failing to reach an agreement on license plates, saying that since 2011, when the EU-mediated dialogue began, Serbia has not implemented the agreements, especially those on the free movement of people and goods, which which, according to Osman, has caused problems for citizens and businesses.
Despite the fact that the temporary license plate agreement expired on Friday, April 21, at the border crossings connecting Kosovo with Serbia, RFE / RL reporters saw that cars with Serbian and Kosovar license plates were using sticky notes to cover state symbols on license plates and their circulation is developing normally.
Kosovo’s chief negotiator, Besnik Bislimi, has warned that the authorities will not take immediate action and will apply the same actions as Serbia, while Serbian chief negotiator Petar Petkovi ka has said that the sticker regime will continue.
