The President of Northern Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, in his annual address to the members of the Assembly on December 22, said that there should be no rush to resolve the dispute with Bulgaria.

“Instead, we must work on key reforms in the country on which the quality of life of our citizens depends,” Pendarovski said.
He said that the thesis that the prolonged status quo could destabilize the country’s security do not stand and that the EU should not be entered as “a tree without roots”.
“… In the current context, when we recognize our red lines and defend them publicly, we should not be preoccupied with how long it will take for others to face the truth about us… Countries with unique socio-cultural development are “EU members, not those who go there like no other country, like a tree without roots”, said Pendarovski
The Macedonian head of state also spoke about the reforms in the country and the lack of rule of law, which, according to him, have caused many people to flee northern Macedonia.
He mentioned in this case the tragedy with the bus in Bulgaria, where 45 passengers died, which has not yet received a court epilogue, as well as the tragedy with the modular hospital in Tetovo, where 14 patients who were being treated by COVID-19 died.
According to Pendarovski, the rule of law should be the main priority of a country aiming for membership in the European Union.
“The only way to restore trust in institutions is the legal conclusion in any case where there are suspicions of crimes… If this, as well as some previous cases, do not reach a court decision within a reasonable time, distrust of citizens will only to grow “, said President Pendarovski, who started his annual speech with a minute of silence for the victims of the bus accident in Bulgaria.
The head of state also spoke about the removal of Zoran Zaev from the head of government, assessing it as a democratic act, which according to him does not happen in many countries.
“The fact is that he leaves when his party is in power and this is a diametrically opposite situation from 2017, when we could not make a peaceful transition of power with a formed parliamentary majority, which directly provoked the events of April 27. . The biggest shame for the Macedonian democracy in history “, said Pendarovski, referring to the former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, who also organized resistance not to leave power, in 2017.
By mid-January 2022, Northern Macedonia will have a new Government, led by Dimitar Kovacevski, the new chairman of the Social Democratic League (SDSM).
At the head of the executive, he will replace the current Prime Minister, Zoran Zaev.
