The passengers of the plane were climbing into their seats and the cockpit door was left open.
The suspect was appointed by the local network LaPrensa.hn as American Aaron Christopher Ebanks Fuentes – and is believed to have been angry with the crew for the baggage claim area.
He had run between the cockpit and entered the cockpit damaging the aircraft power levers as he sought to leave by opening the cockpit windows.
The man was quickly restrained by airline staff and then turned himself in to local police.
Footage from the scene showed the plane’s steering wheel levers distorted, and the suspect was taken by authorities in a wheelchair.
Witnesses also spoke of an “object” inserted into the suspect’s mouth as he was escorted away from the airport.
The plane was expected to carry 130 passengers and six crew members on the flight to Miami, but after the incident was deemed incapable of flying.
