Relatives of a model who was stabbed to death by her boyfriend had warned her to beware of his lack of mental stability as she suffered from what doctors called a “paranoid delusion”.
Charles Byrne, 25, stabbed to death Philippine model Christina Rowe, 28, at her home in Worcester, Britain, and threw her body into a river in February after believing she was a “pedophile male in new skin”. said at the trial of the case.
After Rowe’s murder, the 25-year-old had attempted to kill her daughter as well, prosecutors said.
Byrne had then placed the 28-year-old’s body in a suitcase, and in his mother’s car had gone to dump it in the Severn River.
Speaking to the British daily The MirrorRowe’s acquaintance, 31-year-old George Devereux said he and family had tried to warn him.
Devereux said: “It was difficult because we did not know the true extent of things. We did not know that he was persecuting him or that he wanted to take them hostage. She came to stay with me for some time with her daughter. “While he behaved in an uncontrolled manner, he was aggressive and controlling.”
Byrne was sentenced to life in prison last month after admitting to killing Christina Rowe and attempted murder of her child.
The prosecution failed to prove the charge of kidnapping Rowe and her child a few days before they were killed.
The accused is in a psychiatric hospital and will later be transferred to prison.
Rowe’s sister Stephanie said in a statement: “Maybe someday we will recover from this, but it will not be soon. “We all have to live with the fact that Charles Byrne is alive and my sister is not.”
