The French president, Emmanuel Macron, has made it clear that he will make the lives of the unvaccinated against the coronavirus more difficult.
“I want to annoy them, and we will continue to do so – until the end,” he told the French daily Le Parisien.
His comments came as the draft law on vaccination passports was pushed by opposition lawmakers, as it stipulates that unvaccinated persons should not be allowed access to a variety of organizations.
The bill was scheduled to pass this week, but it has angered opponents of the vaccine, and some French lawmakers have said they have received death threats over the issue.
In an interview with Le Parisien, Macron said that although he would not go after compulsory vaccination, he hoped to encourage people to be vaccinated “by restricting access to social life as much as possible”.
France is one of the countries with the highest vaccination rate in Europe, as more than 90 percent of the adult population has received both doses of the vaccine.
For months, France has been urging people to present evidence of vaccination or a negative coronavirus test to gain access to public events.
