Giant panda Mei Xiang celebrated her 24th birthday today with special treats prepared by staff at the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington.
The benevolent bear gave a show of his delight to the audience by playing and enjoying the fruits and frozen treats prepared for him.
In addition to visitors to the garden, the officials have even installed cameras with live streaming to follow Mei Xiang’s “special ice cream day”.
The first pandas came to the United States in 1972, after a visit by President Richard Nixon to China.
The pair of pandas were given to him by former Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai as a goodwill gesture to the American people.
This year in April, the garden also celebrated the 50th anniversary of pandas in the US.
