Ten days after being hit by the car of an Israeli colony, 70-year-old Suleiman al-Hathaleen, an icon of Palestinian civil resistance south of Hebron, has died.
In early January he suffered multiple injuries after being hit by an Israeli car, the Palestinian health ministry said.
Suleiman Al-Hathaleen was seriously injured two weeks ago when he was hit while participating in a protest near his native village of Um Al-Khair, south of Hebron.
The mayor of the Palestinian communities in the area, Nidal Younes, told the network ‘The New Arab ‘“Al-Hathaleen was taking part in a demonstration in support of the prisoner Hisham Abu Hawash “When the car of an Israeli colony in the area came quickly and hit him as Al-Hathaleen tried to block the road.”
Younes adds that Israeli police did not stop the car at the time.
Palestinian groups mourned Al-Hathaleen, who was known for his civil protests against the Israeli occupation, particularly in the Hebron area.
“When Israel established the Carmael colony on its family land in the 1980s, it became very active in protests against illegal Israeli colonies,” Sharabati said.
“He had only faced the colonizers a few times, kishin they had ransacked his house and arrested him several times, but he never stopped gathering Palestinians in the area to protest.”
The hills south of Hebron are considered by Israel as “Zone C” in the occupied West Bank lands controlled by Israel, where Palestinians are barred from building while Israeli settlers line up.
