Pakistan today strongly condemned what it called “the attack on innocent worshipers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli occupying forces.”
Pakistan’s foreign ministry said such attacks, especially in the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, violate all humanitarian norms and human rights laws.
“We pray for the speedy recovery of the wounded and reiterate our unwavering support for the cause of Palestine. “We urge the international community to act immediately to protect the Palestinian people.”
A two-state solution to the conflict is essential for a lasting peace, according to UN resolutions and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, under the pre-1967 borders and with Jerusalem as the capital of a Palestinian state bordering Israel, the statement added.
The Israeli army last night used deafening grenades, tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse Muslim worshipers in the Haram al-Sharif area of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.
At least 205 people were injured yesterday in attacks on the Al-Aqsa Mosque and other areas of East Jerusalem, including the Damascus Gate in the ‘Old Town’ and Sheikh Jarrah, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent.
Tensions have been high this week in Palestinian areas since Israeli military strikes, which are responding with evictions and arrests following a two-person attack by a Palestinian in the north of the country.
Israel occupied East Jerusalem, including the Al-Aqsa Mosque, during the 1967 war. The city was annexed in 1980, a move not recognized by the international community.. / Anadolu /
