A three-dimensional map of the universe, the most detailed to date, has been published thanks to the spectroscopic instrument “Dark Energy”.
The map shows the location of 7.5 million galaxies.
The map was released Jan. 13 by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory of California, which is leading the search for the universe. The creation of this map is the result of the first seven months of research, during which the mentioned instrument was used.
Galaxies are visible, each of which consists of 100 billion to billions of stars. The map reflects the view from planet Earth towards the constellation of Virgo, slowly approaching the Volar constellation.
The astrophysicist of the mentioned laboratory Julien Guy stressed that it is possible to see, as he said, the traces of the early universe and the history of its expansion. This is just the beginning of the work of this laboratory, which will publish monthly data on millions of new galaxies.
When the search is completed, which should take place in 2026, the map should contain 35 million galaxies. This will provide astronomers with a wealth of important data for further research.
The findings will contribute to the understanding of the mysterious dark energy that is believed to make up 70 percent of the universe and is the cause of the universe’s expansion.
