Addressing International Women’s Day, President Vjosa Osmani said that women in politics are more valued for their clothes than for what they do. She has said she has faced many barriers along her political journey.
President Osmani, but also Prime Minister Albin Kurti have pledged that their strategic objective is to create equal conditions for women.
On International Women’s Day, the Agency for Gender Equality has organized the event with the theme “Let’s break down prejudices, we work for inclusion”.
President Vjosa Osmani wished that the words “women” and “girls” be synonymous with triumph, success and triumph. She also mentioned cases of domestic violence and high unemployment.
“Gender equality and women’s rights are fundamental and a precondition for addressing all the challenges I mentioned. We can achieve prosperity, security and stability only when we promote, protect and guarantee the rights of women and girls. For decades women have called for equality, for decades women have repeated that the time has come for equality, opportunities for representation. The time to end violence, the time for access to justice, for equal opportunities in inheritance. “We must unite all women and girls, men and boys, young and old, to breathe gender equality at home, on the streets, in the workplace, in institutions, in the community and everywhere else.”she said.
Further, Osmani mentioned the successes in sports, art and culture, adding that prejudices still continue to inspire.
“Girls and women are easily categorized and labeled before being heard and evaluated. Girls and women are attacked before being respected and treated with dignity. Girls and women are rejected before the doors open because there is always a reason, always an obstacle, always a doubt. For me and my colleagues who are here in politics, always what we wear is more important than what we do. “I often try not to fully reveal the many barriers I have faced during my professional and political journey.” stated Osmani.
The chief executive, Albin Kurti, said that joint institutional organization is the only alternative. According to him, gender equality is the foundation of social equality.
“Women are doubly active, they deal with general policies but also with gender issues. Women not only work for women, but they also work for women, especially women. We need to activate educated women and we need to educate active women as much as possible. Creating equal opportunities is our strategic objective in our gender equality program for women to benefit from development, but also to contribute to increasing involvement and active participation and participation in decision-making. To achieve the right results on the common path, equality at the beginning of the path is necessary. “Within this year, in the name of an equal start, we have distributed allowances for more than 142 thousand newborn children”, stated Kurti.
He pledged to work for young children to grow up with values that promote gender inclusion and equality, women’s economic empowerment and financial independence through the expansion and development of active employment measures.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Head of the EU Office in Kosovo, Thomas Szunyog said that gender equality is an integral priority of the European Union. He had good words for the inclusion of women in key positions in institutions.
“I would like to praise Kosovo as a good example of women’s empowerment and giving leadership positions. Many ministers, deputy ministers and members of Parliament, Kosovo is showing a good sign that it has placed women in key positions. This serves to strengthen the envisaged objectives for gender equality in Kosovo. “Representation alone is not enough to achieve gender equality, involvement in decision-making and leadership positions is vital.” he said.
That women and girls in Kosovo continue to face prejudice, said the chief executive of the Agency for Gender Equality, Edi Gusia.
She also spoke about the war in Ukraine, where she said that women are being sexually abused.
“There are hundreds of women and girls, men and boys who are facing the horrors of an unjust war. Today, at this moment there are hundreds of children, girls and boys who together with their mothers are facing death, are undergoing exodus. Unfortunately, we are hearing the first warnings that sexual assault as a means of war against Ukrainian women is happening. “If women had been encouraged to be part of global political decision-making, many wars and conflicts could have been avoided.” said Gusia.
In the organization of the Agency for Gender Equality with the topic “We eradicate prejudices, we work for inclusion”, ministers and MPs also spoke about the prejudices they have faced during their political journey.
