The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Northern Macedonia, Bujar Osmani, said on Sunday that several persons of Macedonian institutions were discovered who, according to him, had carried out espionage activities with the Bulgarian authorities, demotivating them not to work for resolving the dispute with Bulgaria.

Macedonian Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani said those suspected of propaganda against resolving the dispute had allegedly linked it to a lack of political stability and possible parliamentary elections.

According to him, “such efforts are from people in institutions that are in line with the comments of the Bulgarian Prime Minister Petkov, that there are people who will try to keep the issue with Bulgaria open, to keep the European integration process blocked, so that this region should always be an area for someone to use it to achieve their goals ”.
However, Osmani did not provide details on who these people were who “spied” in Sofia or what positions they held in the institutions of Northern Macedonia.
Osmani said that “the region, the EU member states, the EU, the transatlantic alliance, need strategic leadership in this period in order for the region to consolidate security, politically and economically.”
Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov said on Saturday that suspected Russian spies in Bulgarian institutions are working to disrupt relations between Sofia and Skopje.
Sofia suspects three Bulgarians of espionage activities, two of whom worked for the State National Security Agency and the third for a ministry.
The Bulgarian authorities do not disclose either their identity or their “espionage” activity.
The prime ministers of northern Macedonia and Bulgaria, Dimitar Kovacevski and Kiril Petkov, said on March 28th that the possibility that the two countries would soon resolve the dispute over the Macedonian language and identity, as well as the historical past between the two countries, was not ruled out.
