Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, a former ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, today accused the European Union of launching an “atomic bomb” on Hungary’s economy in a bid to halt Russian oil imports over its aggression against Ukraine.
Following in the footsteps of the US, the EU has proposed a ban on oil exports from Russia, in the latest round of anti-war sanctions in Ukraine.

Speaking in an interview with Kossuth Radio this morning, Orban said: “This is like an atomic bomb they want to drop on the Hungarian economy. “If implemented, the price of oil and gasoline will rise sharply.”
Hungary’s right-wing leader said it would take years to transform the Hungarian energy sector to not be dependent on Russia.
He added that Hungary does not support future sanctions against Russia and that its country has the right to use its veto to block the bloc’s proposals.
“They have crossed this red line. “Even if coal does not have these consequences for Hungary, the sanctions continue one after the other”, said among others Orban, adding that he does not support the sanctions against the leaders of the Russian church either.
