At a time when Albania is ranked as one of the countries with the highest level of corruption, only 62 officials of various levels were criminally charged last year by the Supreme State Audit for abuses and fraud with public property.
The head of this institution, Arben Shehu from the Committee on Economy, has appealed to take into account the implementation of the recommendations left for the prevention of financial damages.
“Not only in the reports, but what should be. Preventive role much more than punitive. We will have to change the way you suggest, thanks to the findings you make during your audit work. “What changes does it seem to have, even in the public procurement law to improve the current procedures, how has the efficiency of public money increased and those persons who cause harm to be brought to justice.”
Last year, the economic damage to the budget according to the Supreme State Audit is estimated at 615 million euros. There are over 4,200 recommendations that the highest audit institution has addressed to public institutions throughout the country, where most of them include disciplinary and administrative measures, but also recommendations for legal improvements.
