Footballer Aleksandër Llambi lost his life on the field during the match of the Greek team Iliupoli, on Wednesday afternoon in Athens.
According to a statement from the Iliupoli team, the 21-year-old lost consciousness and fell on the field, just 5 minutes after the Iliupoli-Ermionidha match started, valid for the eliminators of the third category of the Hellenic championship.
He was taken to hospital but doctors could not bring him back to life.
The forensic expertise that will be performed on Thursday morning is expected to shed light on the causes of death, as the team stated that the 21-year-old from Gjirokastra was in full health and had successfully passed all physical tests just a few days ago.
The Greek Federation expressed its condolences and asked for clarification regarding the circumstances of the 21-year-old’s death.
Alexandros Llambi was called up by Greece’s hope team and was praised positively by sports critics.
