German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has joined the group of European politicians congratulating the winner of the country’s parliamentary elections, Emanuel Macron.
In the days leading up to the election, Scholz joined other moderate leaders of European nations in publicly urging the French people to reject the far-right Marine Le Pen and re-elect Emmanuel Macron.
The German leader says voters had signaled their support for Europe and that he expects to continue working with the French president.
