Citizens today woke up with oil prices of 230 lek / liter, which is a record in the history of the country.
The price of oil increased by 40 lek from yesterday midnight. The impact on this price has been created by the price on international stock exchanges but also by the taxes paid for each liter sold.
The main factor is the war in Ukraine and sanctions against Moscow. The price currently on the stock exchange has gone up to $ 120 a barrel, and the reason is that Russia, the world’s second largest oil producer, is no longer allowed to export it because ships are prevented from moving. And there are at least 10 million barrels of oil a day leaving the market due to the blockade.
But there is another internal factor. Domestic taxes, from turnover, excise increase the final price at gas stations. Recently, another tax has been added, called the pump concessionaire, of almost 35 million euros per year, a figure that the concessionaire is seeking to double.
As a result of the war in Ukraine and the taxes in Albania, Albanian citizens today have faced an increase of more than 20 percent per liter of oil.
The hydrocarbon sector is currently also under the control of the competition authority for abusive pricing in a controlled manner. The Government of Kosovo a few days ago decided to freeze the profit rate for rising prices, as a result of the conflict in Ukraine. That of Tirana recently, has taken care only of increasing taxes.
