In June next year, Albania and Northern Macedonia will submit to UNESCO the file with the steps taken to fulfill the recommendations not to lose the status that includes the Ohrid region in the list of world assets.
With almost 1 year left to fulfill the 32 UNESCO recommendations for the management and protection of Lake Ohrid, steps are being taken for cooperation at the ministerial level by the Management Committee.
For several years the responsibility was left on the municipalities despite the fact that in the list of 32 recommendations there are problems that require solutions from the highest levels.
The construction sector, infrastructure, mining activity, waste management are some of the problems that need to be solved for this region, while line ministers are optimistic, although this requires a series of investments and interventions.
If the UNESCO recommendations are not met by the 2 countries, the Lake Ohrid region risks being included in the list of sites that are at risk, while in the Albanian part there is still no concrete intervention on the ground for those issues that are considered acute.
